Supporting sustainable food retail transitions

3Keel worked closely with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to design and host an event ‘Sustainable Food Retail – Delivering shareholder value’, in Warsaw on 4th June 2019.

This was the first EBRD business forum for major food retail companies in Europe, Asia and North Africa, and which brought together CEOs and senior representatives of international, local and online retail chains to exchange views and hear from experts on sustainability, digital technologies and marketing. The forum explored how changing customer preferences, climate change and socio-economic considerations influence operations and the retailer relationship with its suppliers and consumers. The event convened more than seventy business leaders, bankers, and other stakeholders to discuss the role and opportunities for food retailers to be the catalyst for improving the sustainability of the food system, and was the first such event for representatives of EBRD’s operating regions.

The 3Keel team of Simon, Will and Mark worked with the EBRD team to develop the agenda, design the event format, identify speakers and brief the panellists. On the day, Mark moderated one of the panel sessions and Will presented on 3Keel’s past work for EBRD on the development of sustainability labels for retailers and the creation of guidelines for retailers and policy makers or reducing food loss and waste throughout the sector.
