Fran Edmunds

Head of Climate, Nature and Resources

Fran is Head of Climate, Nature and Resources. Part of the senior management team, she is responsible for leading this business unit: ensuring high quality project delivery, driving business development and nurturing the team.

Fran has worked on sustainable food systems, farm-to-fork, across the private, public and third sectors. Before joining 3Keel, she was a Head of Policy at Defra shaping the UK’s new agriculture policy to deliver environmental public goods and strengthening food supply chain transparency through improved food labelling regulation and data reporting that incentivises businesses to make it easier for consumers to buy ethical and sustainable food products. Starting her career as a strategy consultant at OC&C, Fran has worked with corporate clients across FMCG and retail sectors. With a desire to have a purposeful career, she moved to Zambia to use her core consulting toolkit to support an agri-environmental NGO commercialise their food manufacturing operations and maximise their impact.

Comfortable on-farm, on the factory floor, in a spreadsheet and at a Board meeting, Fran has a deep understanding of the entire food supply chain. She is recognised as a strong strategic and impact focused leader, with extensive experience collaborating with food businesses, farmers, policymakers and consumers. This coupled with her experience at a top-tier strategy consultancy means she brings expertise on how to build a commercial case for sustainability alongside maximising impact. She is passionate about unlocking the power businesses have to drive large-scale sustainability change, as well as how they can accelerate this by partnering with government and civil society.

Fran studied Veterinary Medicine at Clare College, Cambridge and holds a MSc in Food Policy from City, University of London. With a keen interest in food systems thinking, her dissertation research looked at the extent to which impact investors are delivering environmental, social and health impacts holistically in the agrifood sector. She has recently completed CPD at the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership.

Outside of work, Fran can be found doing something active, whether that’s running, cycling or playing tag rugby; travelling to lesser-visited countries such as Ethiopia; or cooking up delicious dinners to share with friends.
