Jim Elliott
Senior Consultant
Jim is a Senior Consultant in the Agriculture and Landscapes Business Unit. He is working on landscape innovation, particularly focussing on developing links between the regulatory and commercial levers that together can shift the dial on the underlying drivers of landscape degradation.
Before he joined 3Keel, Jim worked at environmental charity and thinktank Green Alliance as a senior policy adviser focussing on food, farming, nature and land use policy. His work at Green Alliance was wide ranging, and included analysing the technical and market potential of soil carbon sequestration, exploring governance models for carbon offsetting and greenhouse gas removals, identifying policy needed to avoid potential conflicts as landscapes change, and working with 3Keel on the early development of the Cumbria Landscape Enterprise Network.
Jim first got interested in the environment and landscapes as a young child, seeing hedgerows disappear around his family’s home in north Herefordshire in the 1990s. He was active in the Eco-Schools movement and as an adult has volunteered with a range of environmental and conservation NGOs. While studying for a masters he attended the 40th meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as an assistant to the Netherlands delegation. More recently, he was a member of the expert advisory groups for UKRI funded academic research programmes on Enhanced Rock Weathering for removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, and exploring the risks and opportunities of cultured meat for UK farmers.
Jim holds an MSc in Sustainability Science and Policy from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, and a BA (hons) in History, Politics and Philosophy from Durham University.
