Michael is our Principal Consultant in the Climate Change team. He has 14 years’ experience of providing strategic advice to governments and businesses to help them reduce emissions and manage climate risk in sectors including transport, buildings and infrastructure.
In recent years Michael has had a particular focus on the decarbonisation of manufacturing. He produced a ground-breaking report on how to eliminate emissions related to cement production, as well as carbon reduction strategies for industries including mining, steel, aluminium, glass and brick.
Michael was previously Head of Research at climate think tank Beyond Zero Emissions where his work won international recognition. In 2018 and 2020 his reports won the Prospect Think Tank award in the Climate Change & Environment category. He was also the lead author of the Million Jobs Plan, a green stimulus package to boost employment and reduce emissions.
Michael was previously a Climate Change and Sustainability Consultant at RPS Group and has worked as a freelance climate change consultant for the Australian Government. While at the Environment Agency he was the infrastructure lead for Climate Ready – the UK Government’s programme to increase organisations’ resilience to climate risks.
Before becoming a climate change strategist, Michael was a business analyst and software engineer. He has designed and written software for commodities traders and polling companies. He also redesigned monitoring and evaluation software for development agency Christian Aid.
Michael holds master’s degrees in Computer Science and International Development, as well as a degree in European Law and Languages.
