Miriam Neale

Senior Consultant – Team Lead (maternity cover)

Miriam leads a team in the Sustainable Commodities Practice Area who deliver projects ranging from supply chain mapping, risk assessment, strategy development, capacity building and convening coalitions with companies and stakeholders to mitigate deforestation and exploitation in commodities supply chains including soy, palm, cocoa and coffee.

Prior to joining 3Keel, Miriam was in the Secretariat of the International Accord on Health & Safety in the Textile & Garment Industry (previously the Bangladesh Accord). The Accord is a legally binding agreement between clothing brands and retailers and global trade unions to secure workers’ rights in the clothing supply chain. As part of the senior team from the start of the Accord in 2013, Miriam was involved in governance, signatory and supplier engagement, as well as the operations underpinning this industry-wide factory safety programme. Miriam previously worked for Tesco managing the ethical trade programme for the food supply chain and set up the Tesco Producer Network to promote sustainable food production and secure long term food supply. She started her career at AccountAbility – the institute for social and ethical accountability – and continues to have a strong interest in accountability of companies for their impact on people and planet.

Miriam studied a masters in International Law part-time from 2020-22, which deepened her understanding of international human rights law and international environmental law. She did a thesis evaluating the potential of mandatory human rights due diligence to prevent labour rights violations and participated in a law clinic project with WWF exploring the “rights of nature“ concept.
