Richard Sheane

Director

Richard is one of 3Keel’s founding partners and leads the business’s work on Climate Change. He has been advising businesses, NGOs and public sector organisations on sustainability since 2005, when he started his career as an environmental advisor at the Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG). While at the charity he worked with UK farmers and growers on addressing a range of environmental issues including agri-biodiversity management, water use and greenhouse gas emissions mitigation. On leaving FWAG he joined an Oxford-based consultancy as a senior sustainability consultant where he broadened his sector experience and specialised in the issue of climate change. In July 2013 he set up 3Keel with Simon and Tom.

Richard has a BSc in Microbiology and Biochemistry from the University of Leeds and an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London. Before working in the agri-food sector Richard also worked for two years as a sub-editor for The Press Association and has a postgraduate diploma in Print Journalism.

Richard is recognised within the sustainability sector as a highly skilled researcher and communicator with an in-depth knowledge of agricultural and forestry systems, consumer goods supply chains and associated business risks and opportunities. Richard specialises in greenhouse gas accounting and reporting, target-setting and mitigation planning. He also advises on the development of broader corporate sustainability strategies – as well as data collection, analysis and reporting.

Equally at home in wellies or smart shoes, Richard combines a grounded understanding of primary industries with experience of working at senior levels in some of the largest retailers and brands.

Since founding 3Keel he has worked with a wide range of private and public sector clients including Co-op, innocent drinks, WWF-UK, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation and the Environment Agency. Richard has held voluntary advisory roles at LEAF Marque certification standard, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and Cool Farm Alliance.
