Sophie Milner

Senior Consultant

Sophie is a passionate and astute land management professional with a wealth of practical experience in the UK uplands and lowlands. Great at engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders, she excels at getting to the heart of issues, articulating them clearly and working collaboratively to find solutions.

At 3keel Sophie is a Senior Consultant in the Landscape Innovation team, developing the Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs) programme and helping clients identify and plan practical land management solutions to the challenges they face. A rural practice chartered surveyor and agricultural valuer by training, Sophie worked as a Farm Conservation Adviser in Angus, providing advice to farmers and landowners from the grouse moors of the Glens down to the berry and potato farms of the coast. She’s also held a number of roles over two decades working for the National Trust, including all aspects of estate management, with a focus on large scale landscape restoration, particularly of upland moorland and peat bog.

Sophie has managed a wide and very diverse range of projects including many for habitat restoration and improvement, often on sites designated for their historic or biodiversity interest.  The list also includes developing and delivering a ten-year programme of repairs to the grade 1 listed Hardwick Hall, installing large-scale visitor infrastructure, managing projects to develop policy and long-term planning within the National Trust, and high-level facilitation of corporate partnerships.

Sophie understands the complexities of the land-based economy and the challenges facing it in the 21st century. Fascinated by the diversity of benefits that we as a society derive from land, and personally a bit of an outdoor exercise enthusiast, Sophie loves working with multi-disciplinary teams to explore challenges and opportunities and to come up with practical solutions.
