ust Eat Takeaway.com (JET) is one of the leading global online food delivery marketplaces, partnering with over 600,000 restaurants, operating in 20 countries and delivering over one billion orders last year. As part of their responsible business and sustainability ambition, JET have committed to reduce their scope 1 and 2 emissions to zero by 2030 and are developing a plan to reduce their wider supply chain emissions.

For the second year running JET approached 3Keel for support in quantifying their emissions, which would be disclosed through CDP and independently verified, as well as identifying emissions hotspots within their value chain.

The project involved an assessment of JET’s scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, which mostly arise from deliveries to customers, plus beyond-value-chain emissions associated with restaurant delivery of orders, food and packaging. In addition, 3Keel provided advice on scope 1 and 2 emissions reductions, to support JET’s progress towards their target of eliminating scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.

The greenhouse gas assessment included scoping of the business to identify emissions sources. This was followed by stakeholder meetings to discuss data collection mechanisms, which resulted in primary and secondary data collection within the business. Using these data, JET’s emissions were quantified and reported, alongside an extensive methodology report.

JET’s emissions footprint was independently verified through a limited assurance process. 3Keel worked with the Responsible Business & Sustainability team at JET to achieve these steps, and coordinated data collection from teams across JET’s global business.

JET now has a clear understanding of the sources of greenhouse gas emissions in its business, enabling implementation of an emissions reduction strategy.
