oya is an efficient and core protein, with approximately 75% of global production being used in animal feed. However the growth in demand is not currently being followed with an environmentally and socially responsible supply as deforestation and land conversion in South America continue with limited signs of slowing down.
Retailers working together in a pre-competitive forum
In 2013 several European retailers joined together to form the Retail Soy Group (RSG) to learn from each other and move the industry to where sustainable soya is the norm for the sector. Since its inception the RSG have achieved a number of successes, including:
- developing consistent definitions of deforestation and land conversion that have been adopted by standards bodies;
- guiding the development and advancing of certification standards;
- supporting the launch of landscape level solutions to soy production; and,
- driving the development of supply chain policies that are consistent with these aims
3Keel appointment
In 2019 the RSG selected 3Keel following a competitive tendering process to help assist the group in its next phase. Will Schreiber will be facilitating, representing, and advocating the desires of the RSG members in a variety of forums. Becky Hamp and Steve Jennings are also supporting the group by providing technical expertise and other insights to the forum.
