CASE STUDY MARSHFIELD ICE CREAM
Cooling down – conducting a carbon footprint for Marshfield Ice Cream
3Keel worked with Marshfield Ice Cream, a Wiltshire-based family business, to understand their emissions profile.
or over 30 years, Marshfield Ice Cream and their herd of over 250 British Fresian cows has been producing ice cream sold across the UK.
This year Marshfield approached 3Keel seeking advice on its journey to B-Corp accreditation. We recognised that an important step towards this goal was to understand their carbon footprint, which led to a project in which we assessed their greenhouse gas emissions, identified emission hotspots and began the process of setting emission reduction targets.
After an initial scoping discussion with Marshfield to understand their business and identify emissions sources and available data, we conducted a footprint of Marshfield’s entire business across scope 1, 2 and 3: from the commute into the farm by their staff, all the way through to shipping the finished tubs across the UK, every chocolate chip and drop of milk was accounted for.
Rum-n-raising the bar:
Importantly the project has equipped Marshfield with the information needed to target specific areas of its supply chain, creating a targeted strategy to address their emissions.
