News story
29 May 2025

3Keel’s Commodity Supply Chains team has today launched a new product that provides high-quality insights, easy-to-use assessment data, and detailed analysis on trader performance in forest-risk commodity supply chains.

3Keel COMPASS (Commodities Performance Assessments for Sustainability)
is designed for a wide variety of organisations that have an interest in, or are exposed to, deforestation risk from soft commodities – such as soy, palm oil and cocoa – and are keen to understand and act on associated sustainability risks.

Understanding commodity trader policies and practices is vital to inform responsible sourcing decisions and manage risk. The platform can be used to benchmark supplier sourcing partners and help to identify underperforming traders for engagement. Data and insights will support organisations to drive better practice and progress within supply chains, on issues including:

  • Deforestation and conversion
  • Land use and nature
  • Exploitation and human rights

Insights from 3Keel COMPASS can be used to support the achievement of targets on supply chain sustainability as well as to better understand risk. They may also help increase readiness and inform future due diligence and disclosures under the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and the UK Forest Risk Commodity (UKFRC) Regulation.

How does 3Keel COMPASS work?

3Keel COMPASS provides data and analysis on the performance of the most significant global traders of soy, palm and cocoa. Trader assessments are based on reported information, which is verified through direct outreach to traders. Evidence is critically analysed by 3Keel’s expert team, who offer close to a decade of experience in conducting these assessments. This approach offers consistency and accuracy, ensuring organisations have the best possible information for suppliers, procurement teams and investors.

Core trader assessments are carried out in the summer, with results provided to users in the autumn. Our experts will also issue updates whenever significant announcements are made that could impact our assessment of trader performance.

3Keel’s Commodity Supply Chains team are leading global experts in forest-risk commodities and at working with organisations to drive change through complex supply chains. We understand relevant reporting frameworks, the regulatory landscape, data traceability and the information organisations need to make responsible sourcing decisions.
