The Basics
Name: Ellen Percival
Job title: Junior Consultant
Practice area/functional area: Climate, Nature and Resources
Lives: Oxford
Qualifications: MSc Chemistry (University of Warwick), MSc Sustainability (Cranfield University)
Happy Anniversary! How has your first year been?
Great, thanks – basically part of the furniture now!
What have you been working on?
Just about anything and everything the CNR business unit has to offer! An ecodesign tool, life cycle assessments, climate and nature risk, carbon accounting, waste management solutions and I was even involved with research towards bringing the circular economy to space!
What are you enjoying most about working for 3Keel?
Being surrounded by a group of like-minded people who are passionate and knowledgeable about their work in sustainability has been the highlight for sure. I’ve always learnt best from working with others and to have the opportunity to work with people across all teams (and now more frequently in person at the Oxford offices) has been wonderful.
Who or what inspired you to work in sustainability?
For years, I’ve been interested in the impact of each of our actions; from food waste to plastic use, and how our choices have both upstream and downstream impacts. If I had to pinpoint a moment…learning about the chemistry behind renewable energy technologies at university made me realise the sustainability transition was something I wanted to be involved in. Ellen MacArthur’s work has been an inspiration.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do?
If I’m outside, you’ll find me walking (ideally with Jess the dog), running or playing sports – I’ve recently joined the 7am(!!) padel crew in Oxford. At home, I love diving into crafts and painting – though at the moment it’s more walls than canvases, since we’re in the middle of decorating! When I have a bit more time, I love to travel around the UK and further afield; last autumn I had a lot of fun visiting some of Finland’s (and the world’s) most sustainable cities.
