Welcome to 3Keel! How has your day been so far?
Good thanks! I have been busy reviewing timber data for a client as well as learning about timber certification and areas which are considered high risk for deforestation and illegal harvest.
What have you started working on so far?
I started off working on the palm oil data collection project involving 10 retailers this year across many different countries. It was really interesting to learn about palm oil certification and hopefully contribute towards retailers becoming more aware of the palm oil in their products. I am currently working on similar projects involving cocoa and timber.
What are you looking forward to most about working for 3Keel?
I am looking forward to being able to contribute towards a more sustainable future for the planet. All of 3Keel’s work has a real impact and is driving change in all of the companies and groups they work with. I am really looking forward to finding like minded people and being a part of that change. Interesting work that has a positive impact on the planet – what more could you want?
Who or what inspired you to work in sustainability?
Documentaries by David Attenborough as well as many others which explore the beauty of our planet and the necessity to preserve all the life that inhabits it have always been my favourite. I have also really enjoyed studying biology which has only heightened my love of nature and the outdoors.
How has the pandemic affected your views on sustainability?
For me, the pandemic hasn’t changed my views that much, I have been interested in the environment and sustainable living for a long time. I hope that the pandemic has highlighted the need to look after our planet enough for everyone to start taking action.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do?
I love doing lots of different sports in my spare time. I enjoy going rock climbing, hiking and playing tennis all year round and in the warmer months I go on surfing trips in my camper van – basically anything outside and active. I also enjoy plant based cooking and baking lots of yummy things.
For those wanting to learn more about sustainability, what key resource (tv, film, book, podcast, etc.) can you recommend?
As I mentioned before, I love David Attenborough’s documentaries and there are lots of good documentaries on Netflix about the environment and sustainability too. The podcast ‘How to save a planet’ is also pretty interesting and covers a variety of issues.
